Global Aquaculture Alliance sees transition in leadership
The Global Aquaculture Alliance is having a change in leadership as Andrew Mallison steps in as executive director.
Former director, Wally Stevens, will be moving to another area of the organization and will be remaining on the board of directors and executive committee. He had been acting as executive director since 2007.
Mallison comes to the GAA from the IFFO and the transition will take place as a successor steps into his role at the other organization. Stevens will continues to act as executive director during the transition.
Mallison has been the director general of the Marine Ingredients Organization (IFFO) since 2011. The international trade organization represented the marine ingredient sector.
While with the IFFO, Mallison was involved in moving the head office, relaunching the brand, providing governance guidelines, growing membership and restructuring the team. He also oversaw the expansion of the Responsible Supply standard for fishmeal and fish oil production – which had its first certification in 2010 and now includes 134 sites in 17 countries.
Prior to joining IFFO, Mallison was director of standards and licensing for the Marine Stewardship Council and worked for Marks & Spencer, Maple Leaf Foods and Premier Foods.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in fisheries science, commercial fishing, fish farming, marine law, fisheries economics and marine biology from the University of the South West (formerly Plymouth School of Maritime Studies) in the UK and completed an executive development program at Henley Business School.
