Kentucky headquartered, Alltech, expands US interests with the acquisition of WestFeeds.

Both companies have agreed not to share the details of the transaction, said Mike Castle, COO of Alltech and CEO of its feed division.

However, the deal is expected to help grow Alltech’s presence in that region of the US, he said.

“WestFeeds provides us with a much larger footprint in the western US and that presence significantly improves the value we can provide to customers locally,” he told FeedNavigator.

WestFeeds' portfolio includes feed supplements, premixes, starters and finishers for cattle, feedlots, pigs, sheep and poultry; it also has products for cattle on range forage. Outside of retail locations in Montana, the company has local dealers in Wyoming and Idaho.

“Western livestock producers and companion animal owners will benefit from increased nutritional offerings, expanded sales and technical support, and access to field-proven nutritional technologies through Alltech,” he added.

The acquisition covers the entirety of WestFeeds and adds two, hi-tech manufacturing sites and five retail outlets to Alltech’s presence in the Montana and Wyoming region, he said.

“We have already started the process of integrating our companies and cultures, and we’re looking forward to unleashing the best of both organizations to the benefit of our customers. We’re confident they will notice a difference in their profitability and the health and efficiency of their animals through better local service and greater value,” he added.

Additionally, the current general manager of WestFeeds, Jerry Begger, is set to continue leading the company after the acquisition with assistance from Alltech’s Kyle Klimpke, the company said.

Altech already extended its footprint in the western US in June last year when its Hubbard Feeds business acquired Colorado based Ranch-Way Feeds, with output of over 50,000 tons of feed annually for multiple species.
