Rumen modifier (live yeast) for diet optimization

How can specific live yeast favorably modify rumen function? Could it be considered to optimize ruminant diet formulation?

Numerous researches demonstrate that specific live yeast can have a beneficial impact on ruminal fiber degradation, translated into higher feed efficiency. They allow to maximize the forage portion of the diet and give farmers and nutritionists the possibility to either increase milk or meat revenue per kg of feed, or to optimize feed cost with similar revenue. By modeling the quantitative response of live yeast on rumen pH and fiber degradation in a feed formulation program, nutritionists and farmers are now able to account for improved feed efficiency and income over feed cost (IOFC).
