Coccidiosis in chickens and the use of oregano oil

Coccidiosis is a global disease of poultry and is estimated to cost $2.4 billion globally, per annum. Coccidiosis control typically relies on vaccines or chemicals/ionophores but new tools such as phytogenics are gaining interest as new tools are sort. Phytogenics such as Orego-Stim based on oregano oil have been shown to have a broad range of properties including anti-oxidant, antimicrobial and immune-modulating. Recent work has demonstrated such oregano products can also support coccidiosis management programmes under severe coccidial challenge.
